OLIVE OIL
Olea europaea

Olive oil comes from the fruit of the olive tree (
Olea europaea), a small evergreen tree native to
Asia, Africa, and the Mediterranean. It’s a member of the
Oleaceae botanical family, which it shares
with a famous tropical cousin, the Jasmine tree. Olive oil’s long and rich history in world culinary
culture is legendary, but less well known is its equally long history of use in health treatments on
the body. The same nutritious plant properties that make olives such a healthy dietary staple also
make them beneficial for treating the body from the outside-in.
Olive oil is incredibly moisturizing. Unlike mineral oil and petroleum jelly it does not block the
skin’s pores, but penetrates deeply to naturally hydrate and condition the skin. These emollient
properties help skin to become healthy and soft. It is also full of nutrients and anti-oxidants,
such as Vitamin A and Vitamin E. These nutrients help to heal damaged skin by stimulating cell
regeneration, and are also used by the whole body within to stay healthy and resilient to
environmental toxins and contaminants that can slowly damage cellular tissue.
Olive oil is a much better choice than artificial chemicals and petroleum-based products for keeping
the body healthy and toned. It’s a completely natural way to care for your body inside and out. At
Blue Stone, we use olive oil as a key component of all of our soaps and balms so that even with the
demands of contemporary lifestyles, we can all re-discover the joys and benefits of natural health
from this little fruit tree.
